News5/5/2009 ACCCE Statement on Coal-Based Power Plant Expansion in KansasALEXANDRIA, Va., - This afternoon in a press conference, Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson and Sunflower Electric Power Corporation reached a compromise for the expansion of the Holcomb Facility. In reaction to today’s press conference, Steve Miller, CEO of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE), released the following statement: “Today’s announcement is a victory for the people of Kansas and neighboring states who will benefit from affordable energy, more well-paying jobs, and a cleaner environment with the expansion of the Holcomb plant using advanced coal technologies. We commend Gov. Parkinson and Sunflower Electric Power Corporation for their constructive engagement that led to this agreement. We also appreciate the many members of the Kansas legislature who have steadfastly supported this important project.
ACCCE looks forward to working with state policymakers in other parts of the country as we support the siting of new power plants using America’s most abundant energy resource—coal—to meet our nation’s growing demand for electricity.”
