Sunflower Announces Organizational Changes

Hays, Kan.—July 22, 2009—Sunflower Electric Power Corporation has announced organizational changes approved by the board of directors during the July board meeting last Friday.

 
“To continue successfully fulfilling our mission, we frequently evaluate our long-term goals and determine how we can best serve the needs of our member-owners,” said Earl Watkins, president and CEO of Sunflower. “Realigning our personnel so that their expertise is fully utilized is paramount to accomplishing our mission. We are confident these organizational changes will further our success as we tackle the challenges that lie ahead in our industry.”
 
Sunflower’s mission is to provide its six member-owners with reliable power at the lowest possible price while being environmental stewards and using sound business practices.
 
The organizational changes include the following:
 
 
  • Allan George will serve as the manager of system operations. He will ensure safe and reliable operation of the transmission system and confirm that the transmission system adheres to company policies, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) regulations and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) regulations.
 
  • Mark Helm will serve as the executive manager of transmission. He will be responsible for Sunflower’s transmission operations and maintenance. 
 
  • Corey Linville will serve as the senior manager of power supply. He will be responsible for the new power supply department, which will include system operations, Energy Management System/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, power contracts and resource planning.
 
  • Steve Miller will serve as the senior manager of special projects. He will be responsible for managing Sunflower’s commercial insurance program, leading special projects, coordinating business continuity programs and supporting member services and external affairs.
 
  • Bill Nolte will serve as the power market analyst. He will coordinate system operation’s market participation with ACES Power Marketing and SPP, utilizing data from market activities and ACES’ projections to provide energy and fuel forecasts.
 
  • Keith Overland will serve as the executive manager of compliance and corporate security. He will be responsible for Sunflower’s physical assets and cyber security, along with regulatory compliance of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, SPP and NERC.
 
  • Noman Williams will serve as the vice president of transmission policy and engineering. He will be responsible for planning and designing transmission and distribution facilities and for monitoring transmission and market policy issues.
