Our Facilities
Garden City Station
The Garden City complex consists of five different natural gas units, which produce 225 megawatts. All of the units are
natural gas and vary between intermediate and peaking fuel types. The first unit at Garden City was put into service in
1962, and the fifth was put into service in 1979. The Garden City complex is located in Garden City, KS.
Great Bend
The Great Bend natural gas unit produces 98 megawatts and is considered an intermediate fuel type. The unit was put into
service in 1963. The Great Bend unit is located in Great Bend, KS.
Clifton
The Clifton natural gas unit produces 73 megawatts and is considered a peaking unit. The unit was put into service in 1974.
The Clifton unit is located in Clifton, KS, approximately 20 miles east of Concordia, KS.
Cimarron River
The Cimarron River natural gas unit produces 15 megawatts and is considered a peaking unit. The unit was put into service
in 1967. The Cimarron River unit was put into service in 1967. Cimarron River unit is located in Liberal, KS.
Fort Dodge Station
The Fort Dodge natural gas unit produces 145 megawatts and is considered a load-following unit. The unit was put into service in 1968. Fort Dodge Station is located in Dodge City, KS.
Jeffrey Energy Center
Jeffrey Energy Center, which is located seven miles northwest of St. Mary's, Kansas, is a Powder River Basin coal unit
owned by Westar Energy. Sunflower has a Purchased Power agreement with Westar until 2018 for 177 megawatts. The
Jeffrey unit, which was put into service in 1978, produces base load power.
