System Operations |
| The heart of Sunflower's operation is the System Operations Center. This center controls the operation of the electrical system and maintains our interconnection with the electrical grid. These highly dedicated employees keep the lights on during the most severe circumstances and can reroute power if a transmission line is damaged or otherwise removed from service. Sunflower is a member with the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) as well as Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP). These power pools insure connections to redundant supplies of electric power in the event of an outage of our own generation. These pools establish and maintain the spinning reserve requirements that each generating utility must maintain. It is this spinning reserve that will be called upon in such an emergency. This center is also responsible for selling our excess energy on the open market and returning the margins on those sales to our member cooperatives. This is a complicated and time consuming function that must be carefully monitored so that the power routed over our transmission system gets to where it is intended to go. If you have Member System access, you can log into our "Members Only" section to monitor the generation on all of our units and see the system peak in either instantaneous or 24 hour displays. Graphs of the various quantities are also available. Member power billing is also available online. Meter readings are taken several times each week and posted to the website for member access. Members may download these files to their local PCs in the familiar Microsoft Excel format for easy access. Monthly power billing is also available as well as individual substation readings as the member needs.
