Holcomb Station Expansion Project
In August 2005, Sunflower and Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association announced an agreement that would result in the construction of two new coal-fired power plants at Holcomb Station. On May 4, 2009, a compromise was struck between Sunflower and the State of Kansas to allow one 895-MW coal unit to be constructed.
Sunflower has made available the results of an economic impact study that describes the short and long-term benefits from construction of the 895 MW unit.
In February of 2014, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment granted an extension of the commence construction period.
