Corey Linville

Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Generation

"Looking back, my internship at Holcomb Station was truly a turning point in my career. At the time, I was wrapping up my mechanical engineering degree at Kansas State University and unsure of my next step. That summer at Holcomb opened my eyes to a side of engineering I hadn’t considered. I was in awe of the size and complexity of the plant and felt lucky to work there. I enjoyed learning the systems, tackling small projects, and seeing them come to life. It was rewarding to apply classroom concepts in the real world. Even more valuable were the people I met. Sunflower employees were generous with their time and knowledge, and those relationships helped me land a full-time role. If you're considering an internship at Sunflower, I encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunity. Learn everything you can, ask questions, and build connections. You never know, you might just find the start of a long and fulfilling career."

Kim Harp

Senior Generation Engineer

“Working at a power plant is different from studying engineering in a classroom. My internship at Sunflower helped bridge that gap by giving real-world meaning to the theories and formulas I’d learned in school. As an intern, I spent time learning how the plant systems worked and saw firsthand how engineering concepts were applied. That experience gave me a leg up when I was hired full time by allowing me to hit the ground running. Today, I’m a senior generation engineer and project manager for one of Sunflower’s largest generation projects. Looking back, my career has been a continuous learning experience, and it all started with my internship. My advice to interns is to ask questions, learn to read drawings, and don’t underestimate soft skills. Engineers work with many departments and knowing how to communicate and collaborate is just as important as technical knowledge.”

Sam Ayers

Critical Infrastructure Protection Compliance Administrator

"My internship at Sunflower enabled me to build a career that's right for me. As a computer systems intern, I experienced a workplace culture focused on the success and happiness of its employees, something I previously thought to be a myth. The people at Sunflower genuinely cared about my growth, and I built meaningful connections across the company. I saw firsthand how the company impacts western Kansas and understood what it means to be part of something bigger than myself. Beyond technical skills, my internship helped me develop essential soft skills like how to engage with company culture, build a network, and contribute meaningfully. I learned success isn’t just about technical acumen or personal development. Those things matter, but what really drives impact is facilitating success in those around you. If you have the chance to intern at Sunflower, take it. Embrace the culture, be open to learning, and focus not only on your goals but also on how you can contribute to the success of your team."
