A new school year brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and make a difference. Thanks to the generosity of the Great Bend community, local teachers are heading into the 2026-2027 school year with a little extra support.
Sunflower’s Great Bend Employee Activity Committee (EAC) and Wheatland Electric recently wrapped up another successful Teacher Supply Drive, collecting classroom essentials for teachers and students throughout the community.
On August 14, volunteers delivered the donated supplies to seven local schools: Jefferson Elementary School, Park Elementary School, Eisenhower Elementary School, Riley Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, Holy Family Elementary School, and Central Kansas Christian Academy.
From notebooks and pencils to markers and other classroom necessities, the donations will help teachers stock their classrooms and give students the supplies they need to start the school year ready to learn.
Held July 6 - 10 outside the Great Bend Walmart, the Teacher Supply Drive brought together Sunflower employees, their families and friends, Wheatland employees, and community members who wanted to lend a hand. In addition to contributing supplies in person, an Amazon Wishlist was available to purchase items online, making it easy for everyone to be part of the effort.
Of course, a successful supply drive takes more than donations. Sunflower and Wheatland volunteers spent time collecting, organizing, and delivering supplies to schools across Great Bend. Their time and effort helped turn countless individual donations into a meaningful contribution for local classrooms.
The impact of the drive was especially evident as supplies reached teachers preparing for a new year. Through the generosity and teamwork of the Great Bend community, local educators are better equipped to help their students learn, explore, and succeed.
